  • Calella cares your body and soul

Sport, wellness and health are undoubtedly a triumvirate that define the DNA of the calellenses! Passionate about sport, contact with nature, the smell of the sea, the Mediterranean breeze or walking under the plane trees of the promenade Paseo de Manuel Puigvert and have the privilege of enjoying a city thanks to its warm and mild climate, making it the ideal sports destination. When approaching any time of year, you will find the locals walking among the cormorants on the way to the lighthouse of Calella, or enjoying the peace and quiet of the first rays of morning light while walking alongside the beach.

Calella is a city that pulsates, where the rhythms of everyday life combine perfectly with the ability to respond to the most demanding challenges with a reputable track record when it comes to events such as the Ironman Barcelona, the Tour of Catalonia or the Special Olympics Games among others. From the sports world the calellenses have learned to compete, but above all, to share and to learn firsthand the meaning of hard work and perseverance, two key factors that are essential to meeting new challenges.

It is not surprising therefore that this city was distinguished as 'Calella, European Sportstown 2016' by ACES Europe, it is considered today one of the main centres of pilgrimage for athletes from around the world who see Calella as an ideal training base camp to face global competitions such as the world swimming championships or the olympic games!

But if sports are people, people are stories! In each and every one of those involved in some of the sporting events that take place in in Calella there is always a story to tell. The film, 'A 100 metros' (100 meters away), shot in 2015 in Calella by director Marcel Barrena tells the story of Ramón Arroyo, triathlete who at age 30 years was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. A story of overcoming difficulties, in which calellenses participated and strongly identified themselves with.

For calellenses, sport is the perfect union between body and mind and a way of understanding life.
