Cycling Stage

At just 50 km from Barcelona and close to the Natural Park of Montnegre, Calella is now an important tourist destination which was awarded the 'Sports Tourism Destination' Certificate in 2009.  Calella currently has a good track record linking it to the world of sport which places the city as a major destination among cycling enthusiasts (as well as other sporting modalities). In recent years, mainly owing to the success of the city hosting the first stage of the Cycling Tour of Catalonia and the celebration of the renowned Calella-Barcelona Ironman triathlon, the city has emerged as a true place of pilgrimage for cycling enthusiasts worldwide.

Located in the northeast part of the Maresme Region in the shelter of the foothills of the Montnegre, Calella is part of a network of tracks, paths and trails which extend to a length of up to 500 km which gives all cyclists a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the richness of the landscape and to learn in depth about some of the most charming spots which sometimes are unknown to many of the people who visit us.

Travelling through the Barcelona Coast

The Maresme is a long and narrow region that stretches from sea to mountain and from north to south where you will find at your disposal a wide range of routes and paths with a starting point in Calella.  The topography of the region located in the foothills of the Montnegre form a beautiful landscape thanks to the N-II road (ancient Via Augusta) which runs through a rugged, rocky and vertical coastline communicating all the municipalities of the region.

Calella, a Cycling Destination

The Catalan Tourist Board has officially acknowledged the city as a destination specializing in road cycling. Calella currently offers a wide range of services aimed especially for all those who are passionate about cycling (both as professional and amateur cyclists) who want to enjoy a few  days on vacation getting to know the region on two wheels.  The renowned Russian team Katusha, among others, and cycling boss Joaquim Purito Rodriguez have chosen Calella in recent times, to prepare for the cycling season.

Training in Calella

The city has 6 hotels with adapted installations for cyclists, which offer services such as parking for bicycles, bike repair, areas for washing bikes, menus for sportsmen and women, flexible meal times and the possibility to buy energetic drinks and snacks and other cycling accessories if needed.

The terrain and the mild and warm climate which can be enjoyed throughout the year together with a wide range of services make our city an ideal destination for cycling.
