The event was aimed at tourism companies, institutions and managers of the public and private spheres of the tourism and leisure sector.
Last Thursday, December 12, Calella City Council participated in the conference 'The digital transformation of the tourism sector. Strategy for success' held at the Castle of Vila-seca (Tarragona), with the aim of publicizing the latest technological advances and how they affect the digital transformation of the tourism sector.
On the day, organized by the Tourism Innovation and Intelligence Laboratory of the Department of Tourism Innovation of Eureca and the Tourist Board of the Diputación de Tarragona in Costa Daurada and Terres de l’Ebre, with the collaboration of the Tourist Board of Vila-seca, the impact of new technologies and digital tools on the tourism system was discussed and cases and strategies on how to obtain performance were presented.
In this sense, the conference had a round table of success exemples of digital innovation in tourism with the participation of the Project Manager of Calella Smart Tourism Destination, Ferran Muñoz. To become a smart destination, according to Muñoz, "it is necessary a political commitment and leadership with a medium and long term vision, shared at the same time among all the actors involved in the value chain of the destination." In addition, Muñoz highlighted governance as a key aspect to face with success guarantees any process of activation of smart strategies in the surrounding area.
The intelligent tourism management model emerges as an action of the Calella Strategic Plan aligned at the same time with the Municipal Action Plan and the Calella Internationalization Plan. In addition, this management model has had the support of the Diputación de Barcelona as well as the complicity of the sector and citizens through meetings, conferences and participation councils with the aim of guaranteeing the alignment of all the actors that are part of the destination.
According to Ferran Muñoz, "this management model will only be useful as long as it is able to improve the quality of life of people and by extension the tourist experience at the destination." He also presented a first result of the online tourist reputation study of Calella, which the city council is carrying out to design its Tourism Intelligence System, as well as the creation of the Technical Office of intelligent tourist destination.
