From 12 to 14 January Calella has been present at the CMT in Stuttgart, one of the most important tourism fair which more than 2,100 exhibitors from all over the world.
Calella has participated this weekend at the CMT (Caravaning, Motor and Tourism) fair in Stuttgart, with the aim of promoting the whole of the city's tourist offer in the German market, with special emphasis on the offer of cycling, hiking and active tourism.
This event is considered one of the most important tourism fairs in Europe, where more than 2,100 exhibitors and 1,500 journalists from 21 countries participate. Its main theme is tourism and leisure with interest for all kinds of products such as bicycle, golf, wine tourism, among others. In 2018, the CMT received 265,000 visitors, 75% intended to travel in Europe (outside Germany). During the first weekend, parallel to the main fair, there is also a specific fair for cycling and hiking. Calella has been present at the stand of the Diputación de Barcelona and the Catalan Tourism Agency, coinciding with this event.
Attendance at the CMT is part of the promotion strategy carried out by the Tourism Area of Calella in the different issuing markets, in this case the German market and with a commitment to specialization and offer linked to hiking and cycling. There have been provided information on nature routes, establishments and proposals such as the Cycling Stage.
The German market
According to the INE (Statistics National Institute), the normalization of tourist flows to eastern Mediterranean destinations such as Turkey, Tunisia and Greece (which have also lowered prices) has been noticeable in the first ten months of 2018 also in the German market, which has shown a retreat in Spain both in the number of tourists (-4.8%), as spending (-2.5%) and overnight stays (-7.6%). Keep in mind that Catalonia is the third destination of German tourists in Spain, behind the Canary Islands and the Balearic Islands.
Regarding the Catalan area, for the same reasons, the German market also experienced a decrease during the summer of 2018 (-10.5% in number of tourists, -15.5% in overnight stays), according to the latest Balance report summer tour of the Catalan Observatory of Work and Productive Model.
In Calella, despite the decline in recent years, the German market remains one of the most important with a total of 231,876 overnight stays (12.18%) recorded between the months of May and October 2018. Currently it is the fourth market in importance, behind Spanish, Russian and British.
