Calella present at the CMT (Caravaning, Motor and Tourism) fair in Stuttgart

Another fair based on cycle tourism and hiking took place during the CMT

From 13 to 15 January, Calella has participated at CMT (Caravaning, Motor and Tourism) fair in Stuttgart (Germany), considered one of the most important fairs for end users in Europe. This year the CMT celebrates its 50th anniversary.

The CMT has more than 2,000 exhibitors and 1,500 journalists from 21 countries. Last year the fair received about 235,000 visitors. A specific fair for cycling and hiking has also taken place during the first weekend, parallel to the main fair. Coinciding with this event, Calella has been present at the stand of the Diputación de Barcelona and the Catalan Tourism Agency.

    The German market

According to data from the INE (the Spanish Institute of Statistics), in the first ten months of 2017 the German market showed growth, both in the flow of tourists (+5, 9%), as well as spending (+10, 1%) and hotel overnight stays (+ 2%). In Catalonia, during the summer of 2017 (from June to September) the number of German tourists has grown + 5.4% and their average expenditure has increased + 12.5%. The average daily cost of German tourists is € 128.

Regarding Calella, between the months of May and October 2017, German tourists registered a total of 265,932 overnight stays, which represents a decrease of -23.48% with respect to the same period of 2016 (347,524). Even so, the German market continues to be ranked second in terms of countries that visit Calella, representing 13.42% of the occupancy rate in 2017. The Spanish market is ranked first with 23.51%, followed by the Russian market, in third place, and British, in fourth place, both with 12.99%.

Also, if we analyse the calellabarcelona.com web access data from Germany, there is a certain growing interest in the destination. During 2017, visits to the web have grown 102% over the previous year and when they do from mobile devices, this indicator shows an increase of 219%. As for the contents most visited by the German users, the most important are the Lighthouse of Calella, how to get to Calella, cycling, shopping and beaches. Apart from the interest in the activities of the destination, the Germans are also interested in the surroundings of Calella and what to visit near the city.
