The City Council bans sport fishing in La Roca Grossa to protect the feathered cormorant

The City Council, following the recommendations of the Montnegre i la Tordera Naturalists Association, and the ornithologist and biologist Carles Tobella, has banned sport fishing in this place, of great landscape value, to preserve the fauna there alive.

La Roca Grossa, a place with great landscape value, has become, over the years, a natural refuge for the feathered cormorant, a species that runs the risk of moving into the category of endangered or facing to a risk of extinction in nature due to its rarity. That is why the City Council - following the instructions of the Association of Naturalists of Montnegre and La Tordera, and the ornithologist and biologist Carles Tobella - has banned sport fishing in the area. This prohibition also applies to the whole of Platja de les Roques, which is located from Garbí beach to the territorial limit of Sant Pol de Mar.

The protection of this type of bird is also very important to preserve the balance of the ecosystem and marine fauna. They are animals that look for areas of rocky cliffs, on the seafront, to form stable colonies and arrange their nests. Shielding Roca Grossa will protect the colony that lives in Calella and is already part of a characteristic picture, representative of the marine life of the city.
