Last weekend, the Tourism Area of Calella has come to Eindhoven to promote its tourism products in the Dutch market, constantly growing
From 23 to 26 November, Calella participated once again in the Sneak Preview fair, organized by Dutch operator Solmar Tour at its headquarters in Maarheeze, near Eindhoven (The Netherlands).
The Sneak Preview is an end costumer fair which last year received more than 6,000 visitors, among which Calella was promoted as a destination for Family and Sports Tourism. In addition to Calella, there were the tourism offices of Malgrat de Mar, Lloret de Mar, Cambrils and Salou, as well as several groups and companies from the hotel sector.
Data from the Dutch market
According to the last executive report of Turespaña regarding the Netherlands, in 2017 the preferred destinations of the Dutch were Germany (18.1% of the total), France (14.2%) and Spain, which occupied the third position with a market share of 12.4%. This figure has been increasing steadily since 2013. Catalonia was the destination that received the most tourists from the Netherlands (21%), followed by the Canary Islands (18%) and Andalusia (17%). Its spending is one of the highest among the European source markets, with an average of € 1,095 (€ 136 /day), and its average stay is 8.1 nights.
As for the local destination, according to data from the Tourist Office of Calella, between May and October 2018 the number of overnight stays by Dutch tourists has reached 106,723, which represents an increase of 8,049 overnight stays (+ 8.16%) respect last year. We must bear in mind that both in 2016 and in 2017 this market had already recorded quite significant growth (+ 17% and + 15.64% respectively). The Netherlands is currently the 7th largest market, with a market share of 5.61%.
In relation to the preferred tourism products of the Dutch, as reported by the Catalan Tourism Agency, highlights the destination of sun and beach and visits to big cities, although there is a growing interest in active holidays, combining the practice of hiking and bicycle touring with the discovery of local culture.
In reference to visits to the tourist website calellabarcelona.com from the Netherlands, the data show a growth of + 70% of sessions on the web, most of them come from Amsterdam where visits have grown by 120%. The Dutch tourist connects to our website mainly through Google, and 40% of visits arrive via smartphone. Dutch users show interest in how to get to Calella, what to do, the Screamin Festival, Ironman, Dalmau Park or the water activities of the Calella beaches.
