Tourism Museum

The Tourism Museum, unique in the world!

The Museum of the tourism of Calella has emerged as the only museum in the world that aims to show the history of tourism and its socio-cultural and economic effects at the global level in an attractive, educational and participative way. The visit to the Museum of tourism (Mutur) proposes a walk through the history of tourism, going through the history of the first travellers and explorers till the present day of the sector. Moreover by travelling through the different spaces of the Mutur, the visitor will be part of an emotional approach to everything the trip represents with regard to the discovery of new ways of doing and thinking and the enrichment that traveling is supposed to be.

The Museum of tourism joins the cultural heritage of Catalonia, a destination that received 16.7 million foreign tourists in 2015. Catalonia as a destination is already among the main tourist spots in Europe and is working hard to rate amongst the world's top quality tourism destinations. The museum arises from the need to create and add value to tourism and the cultural heritage by consolidating a centre of reference for research and dissemination of the tourism sector and promote a culture of tourism, civic activities, thought and a clear drive for public service as a benchmark pedagogical centre.

Tourism as an economic engine, tourism as a showcase of our culture and of each of us. Tourism as a claim of our social and cultural heritage; for all this and more, tourism deserved this tribute that is the MUTUR.

The MUTUR is based on three pillars:

-Museum facility: the MUTUR is a museum facility designed to create heritage from the valuation of tourism as an economic and social activity, constitutive of heritage value.

-Centre of research and documentation: the MUTUR wants to constitute itself as a centre of national reference for the research and documentary dissemination of tourism.

-Space for invigoration and education: the MUTUR is a space for the promotion of the culture of tourism. The Museum will offer various educational and pedagogical proposals aimed at different audiences such as school children. The educational project of the MUTUR has as an objective to place value on the phenomenon of tourism and emphasize its contributions to the economy, society and culture (both local and global).
