The journalist of the family travel guide 'Kids Vakantiegids' visits Calella

The visit is organized to publicize the Calella’s possibilities on offer in relation to family tourism destination.

The Catalan Tourism Agency has organized a press trip for the journalist of the Dutch platform specializing in Family Tourism with children, 'Kids Vakantiegids', www.kidsvakantiegids.nl with the collaboration of the Tourism Department of the City Council of Calella and the Tourist Association of Calella (ATC).

From June 16 to 19 she stayed in Calella, accompanied by his three-year-old son and a photographer, in order to discover the Costa de Barcelona and its surroundings by first-hand, with a program prepared by the Catalan Tourism Agency so that they can enjoy different activities mainly addressed to the families.

On the 16th they arrived to Calella from the Barcelona airport by car, and stayed at the Family Tourism hotel GHT Balmes & Splash. During their stay, apart from the excursions programmed, they have coincided with the events of the Local Festival of Sant Quirze and Santa Julita, such as the Meeting of Beasts, Gegantonets (little Giants parade), children's performances, etc. They also had an invitation to dinner at a family restaurant downtown and a trip with the tourist train. Accommodation, dinner and the train ride are courtesy of the ATC.

    The Dutch tourist

According to data from the Catalan Tourism Agency, sun and beach are the Dutch tourist’s favourites and city breaks as well. They seek destinations with a mild and sunny climate, although active tourism and holidays in rural and mountain environments also arouse great interest. Catalonia hosts 22% of Dutch tourists who travel to Spain, with an average stay of 6-7 days and an expenditure of 900 euros, one of the highest average expenditure figures among European source markets.

In the case of accommodation, 40% are lodged in hotels and 16% in camping. 22% choose the rental of apartments or rural houses.
As for the holiday periods in the Netherlands, the country is divided into three large areas and make the holidays in stages in summer (six weeks during the months of July and August), autumn, Christmas, carnival and first half of May.

In Calella, during 2017 the Dutch market experienced an increase of + 15.64% in the number of overnight stays (98,674) compared to 2016 (82,325). It currently represents 4.98% of the total number of overnight stays in the city. This increase has also been reflected in the number of visits to the website calellabarcelona.com from the Netherlands, which grew 30.68% in 2017 compared to the previous year's data.
