The system is similar to that of shopping malls to monitor capacity, plus an artificial intelligence model to predict employment trends and a website to check capacity both from PC and mobile.
Starting this Monday, people are allowed to swim again on the beaches of Calella. The beach will be divided into about 15 sectors that will be well indicated with signs. These sectors only respond to a capacity management criterion -which will be done through technological means- and will not be segmented by age population.
To control this capacity, the City Council has contracted the services of the company DatActionS to implement - in the coming days - the DasEyes application, a system that sectors the beaches in multiple "virtual" areas. Through the Calella WIFI network, it will detect how many people are in each of these zones and what distribution they are in. In addition, the municipality's webcam will help since it will give a zenith image. All these data will be treated anonymously and scrupulously respecting the data protection law.
From here on, municipal agents will be provided with a tool that allows them to know at all times how many people are in each area. Additionally, with methods based on Artificial Intelligence algorithms, it will be possible to know when the beaches fill up. Based on this, the municipal agents will open and close the different sections to the public so that there will always be a safe capacity. In addition, citizens can control this capacity (and when the beaches will be filled) through a web portal so as not to make unnecessary trips.
At the moment, this application is already being used on commercial surfaces and it will be the first time that it is implemented on a beach.
Likewise, the City Council will signal the entire bathing area with recommendations to keep the safety distance to prevent outbreaks of the disease. To serve citizens there will be a total of 18 people working in the low season and 23 in the high season, 3 of them will be police officers whose destination will be exclusively in the area of the beach. The public address will also be responsible for giving safety advice to bathers.
Calella beach occupies an area of 173,000 m² of sand and its maximum capacity is 40,000 people.
